Dr. Leighty is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon who recently moved his practice from Grass Valley to Auburn, CA. He is a second generation dentist; his father was one of the first dentists to practice in Augusta, Kansas. After undergraduate work at Wichita State University and the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Leighty attended dental school at UCSF and served his residency at the Univerity of Washington in Seattle, and Rijnstate Zeikenhouse in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
After eight years in Grass Valley, Dr. Leigty outgrew his office on Whispering Pines Lane. His new office is nearly three times the size of the old office and reflects more green technology and materials. He brought his cone beam CT scanner with him, and will be initiating the process to become an accredited outpatient surgery facility by the AAAHC later this year.
Dr. Leighty is a member of Flying Doctors and Rotary International and is very active in Butte-Sierra District and Sacramento District Dental Societies, and has recently joined the Board of Directors for CALAOMS, the state oral surgery organization. He has done extensive volunteer work both here and abroad. Dr. Leighty’s most recent local event was Remote Area Medical (RAM) in Sacramento, and he traveled to Papua, New Guinea, with several other area dentists in October 2011 for a dental clinic in a palm plantation. Dr. Leighty has been traveling to Mexico as a volunteer dentist since 2005.
Dr. Leighty’s wife Karen is an OR nurse at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital. Dr. Leighty has operating and admitting privileges in Auburn, as well as Grass Valley. He treats many patients who need to have impacted or infected teeth removed with IV sedation, and sees many pathology patients. He greatly enjoys working in concert with his referrals to provide dental implant restorations for patients with missing teeth and also works with area orthodontists to provide corrective jaw surgery and extractions.
